The American space technology manufacturer company SpaceX intends to launch Polaris Dawn – the farthest manned mission over the past half a century, which will open the way to the study of distant space.
Polaris Dawn is the first commercial output into outer space in history.
The Falcon 9 launch vehicle starts from the Cosmodrome at Cape Kanveral (Florida) with the Crew Dragon spacecraft, on board which will be four crew members. Polaris Dawn is considered one of the most “risky” SpaceX missions today.
The ship will reach a geostationary height of 1400 kilometers. This will be the farthest point in space, where a person has visited the Apollo 17 mission in 1972.
Mission participants will make a 20-minute exit to outer space at an altitude of 700 kilometers above the ground and 300 kilometers from the International Space Station (ISS).
Heads by Polaris Dawn a billionaire and philanthropist Jared Isekman. Together with it, the crew included a former US Air Force pilot Scott, as well as two SpaceX engineers Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis.
During a five -day flight, 38 medical experiments will be carried out to study the effects of space flights and radiation on the human body and the laser connection with Starlink satellites in the conditions of space
was first tested.
This mission is an opportunity for SpaceX to develop technologies that can be used in the future for flights to the Moon and Mars.
The Polaris Dawn mission is one of the most ambitious piloted SpaceX space missions to date. About this in an interview with the Anadolu agency, Oguz Karasu, a researcher at Oxford University
“Space studies are no longer conducted within the framework of state projects, since now they have become a sphere in which significant funds are investing. For the first time in history, a commercial company will take a person outside the low -earth orbit, to the distance that they have since set off since Apollo 17, ”said Karasa.
According to him, during the mission, spacesuits for immoral activity in space developed by SpaceX will be used. The scientist noted that the experience of their application will be fundamental for the design of missions to the Moon and Mars.
“High -speed and reliable Starlink communication technology is important for future long -term space missions and connecting to the Internet on Earth. Contributing to its promotion by testing in outer space, Polaris Dawn will become an important milestone both in the development of technology and in expanding economic capabilities”, -Said the interlocutor of the agency.
He added that the success of technology involved in the mission can help reduce expenses for space missions. “This will allow more companies to participate in the commercial development of space, and will open a new era in the world economy,” concluded Karasa.
