Compiled “roadmap” Of Trade Relations Between Turkey And Syria

Turkey and Syria announced the steps that will be taken in many areas from reassessments of customs duties on some goods to the activation of the free trade agreement between the two countries.

A written statement published by the Ministry of Trade of Turkey says that the relationship between the two countries in the new period after the fall of the previous regime in Syria on December 8, 2024 and the liberation of the people reached great progress.

In this context, in Syria’s foreign trade relations with its largest trading partner Turkey, a new era began: “Now Turkish goods can get not only to the regions released as a result of peacekeeping operations in the north, but throughout the territory of Syria.”

In the process that began with the introduction of the general and unified customs regime for all neighboring countries and all countries of the world, which was enforced by the new Government of Syria on January 11, some misunderstandings arose.

For this reason, discussions were organized with Syrian officials in video conference mode: “In this direction, our delegation, consisting of the relevant technical personnel under the leadership of the Deputy Minister of Trade, Mustafa Tuzju, visited the capital of Syria Damascus. The Turkish delegation held a meeting with the Minister of Trade and the protection of consumer rights of Syria by Makhir Halil al-Hasan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Akhmet Dukhan and the head of the Department of Ground and Sea Borders Kuteib Bedouin.

During the negotiations, the current situation was discussed between the two countries, as well as the steps that must be taken in the field of economic and trade relations and customs issues.

“from January 11, the Syrian side in relation to some goods decided on the revaluation of customs duties applied equally to all countries and border points. It was decided on the basis of a more integrated approach to economic partnership to begin negotiations on the resumption of the Turkish-Syrian agreement on a free Trade (SST), which was suspended in 2011., in order to revive the Syrian economy, an agreement was reached on cooperation in the fields of industrial and agricultural trade, transit and bilateral transportation, and conclusion of contracts.
