Several thousand dead dolphins were found on the coasts of Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine. Scientists believe that the cause of their death could be the war of Russia against Ukraine, writes The New York Times.
According to scientists, the military operations that are carried out along the coastline of Ukraine caused innumerable damage to nature and violated the habitat of dolphins. They are also under threat, including due to the discharge of bombs into coastal feed areas, oil from sunken ships and river runoff, contaminated with chemicals from ammunition, as evidenced by recent studies of Bulgaria, Ukraine and Turkey.
Ecologist of the Ukrainian National Natural Park “Tuzlovskiy Limans” Ivan Rusev told Nyt that the noise of ships and the use of powerful hydroacoustic systems also affect the dolphins. This disorients animals that also use sound for navigation. “Some dolphins had burns from bombs or mines, and they could no longer navigate and look for food,” said Rusev.
The fact that more and more dead dolphins are found on the coasts, specialists of the Turkish Fund of Marine Research told in March. Researchers emphasized that the war causes destructive damage to marine bio -mesh.
