The head of the Turkish Ministry of Defense, Hulushi Akar, expressed hope for the prudence of the US Congress in the issue of selling Ankara F-16 fighters. His words are given by the NTV television channel
According to him, the consideration of the F-16 aircraft supplies to Turkey continues contrary to the position of the House of US Representatives, which has linked a defense agreement with a number of conditions. “The process continues. We hope that [in the US Congress] will prevail the mind and a rational, logical decision will be made,” the NTV television channel quoted the minister.
Earlier, the House of Representatives of the US Congress voted to amend the defense budget, which will complicate the transfer of Turkey F-16 fighters, demanding that Ankara would not invade them into the airspace of Greece. 244 congressmen voted, against – 179. Representatives of the Democratic Party Frank Pallon and Chris Papas spoke with the initiative. Recall that the United States excluded Turkey from the F-16 production program for the purchase of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems S-400.
