Council Of Federation Of Russian Federation Ratified An Agreement On Comprehensive Strategic Partnership With Iran

the Council of the Federation of the Russian Federation (the Upper House of the Federal Assembly (Parliament) ratified the agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to the press service of the Federation Council, the senators made such a decision at the 589th plenary meeting of the upper house unanimously.

The contract was signed on January 17, 2025 during the visit of President Iran Masudshkin to Moscow.

The contract provides that the parties will develop equal and mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of politics, defense, security, economics, trade, finance and investment, infrastructure, energy, transport and communications, information technologies, humanitarian relations, culture, education, healthcare, sports, tourism, and in other areas of mutual interest.

If one of the parties is subjected to aggression, the other side will not have to provide any military or other assistance to the aggressor that contributes to the continuation of aggression, and will promote that the disagreements have arisen are regulated on the basis of the UN Charter and other applicable international law.

In addition, the implementation of military and military-technical cooperation of the parties, as well as cooperation in the fight against international terrorism and other challenges and threats, is envisaged.

The obligations of the parties in the field of counteracting the use of unilateral compulsory measures, including extraterritorial nature, the creation of independent mechanisms of international calculations, cooperation in the development of international transport corridors passing through the territory of the two countries, in particular the North-South International transport corridor.
