The court in France found the leader of the ultra -right party “National Association” Marine Le Pen in the case of the non -purpose of using the funds of the European Parliament.
Along with Le Pen, an indictment has been issued in relation to eight deputies of this legislative body.
The politician was sentenced to four years in prison (two of them conditionally, two with an electronic bracelet). In addition, the court forbade her to be elected to any political positions for five years. Marine Le Pen should also pay a fine of 100 thousand euros.
Thus, Le Pen will not be able to run for presidents in the election of 2027.
The next presidential election in France will be held in 2027. The leader of the National Association took part in three presidential races (2012, 2017 and 2022), in the last two she went to the second round.
In the past elections in 2022, she was the main rival of the current president Emmanuel Macron, losing to him in the second round.
