The initiative to create a gas hub of Turkey positions the country as a key player in the global energy market.
This was in an interview with the Anadola agency said the First Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia Pavel Sorokin. The conversation took place on the fields of the Istanbul Energy Forum, which was held on November 25.
“The initiative of Russian presidents Vladimir Putin and Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan to create a gas hub here – one of the initiatives emphasizing the role of Turkey as a reliable partner who will become the center of future energy supplies in various formats,” said Sorokin.
According to him, it will be not only gas, but also the “financial hub” connecting the regions.
Sorokin pointed to the “privileged geographical position” of Turkey, connecting Europe and Asia. “This is a very convenient transit route from many traditional regions of energy supply,” he explained.
He noted that Türkiye “demonstrated that thanks to pragmatism and relying on economic rather than political considerations,” was able to occupy a reliable niche in the transit market.
The deputy minister pointed out projects such as the Transanatoly gas pipeline (Tanap), the Turkish Stream and Blue Stream, which supply both the Turkish market and European consumers.
He noted that Türkiye is also a major consumer of energy. According to him, the country has an increase in the economy and population, as well as the development of the industrial base.
Sorokin noted that Türkiye “needs energy more and more every year.” At the same time, he pointed out the need for energy supply at a competitive price and diversification of sources.
