The famous film director Mohammad Rasulof was released after seven months of arrest, reported Radio Fard (Persian Radio Liberty). From the Tehran prison “Evin” the director was released on February 12.
Rasulof, who received the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 2020 for the film “No Evil”, was arrested by the Iranian authorities in July last year, along with another director – Mostafa Aliahmad. Both filmmakers criticized the authorities of Iran. Together with other Iranian cultural figures and activists, they signed an appeal to the authorities entitled “Fold the Weapons”, which condemned the suppression of protests in Abadan, who broke out after the death of people due to the collapse of the building.
Rasulof, as representatives of the authorities officially stated, was arrested as part of the past case: in March 2020, he was sentenced to a year of imprisonment on charges of anti -government propaganda.
Rasulof left prison a few days after another famous film director Jafar Panahi was released from the same Evin.
