CSTO Intends To Deepen Cooperation In Field Of Counteracting Illegal Migration

The CSTO has prepared a draft agreement on cooperation in the field of counteracting illegal migration.

This was stated by Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO Valery Semerikov at the International Conference in Minsk on the topic of illegal migration and promotion of regional cooperation in solving this problem, BelTA reports.

Semerikov stated that the system of combating illegal migration in the CSTO is improving annually. However, according to him, at the same time, organized criminal groups improve the forms and methods of illegal migration, new channels are opened.

“We see a further increase in the efficiency of our activities through the prism of improving the legislative framework in the field of migration at the national level, as well as the adoption of a fundamental regulatory legal act in the format of the CSTO – an agreement on cooperation of the organization of the organization in the field of counteracting illegal migration. This draft agreement Prepared, consistent with a high degree, and we intend to introduce it in 2025 for consideration by our authorized bodies and collective security councils, ”said Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO.

Semerikov also emphasized that the general problem of illegal migration should be solved by consolidated efforts with the use of the potential of all international and regional organizations.

He drew attention to the fact that the annual operation of the CSTO “illegal” in 17 years helped to stop 2 million violations of migration legislation, more than 31 thousand criminal cases were instituted, more than 7 thousand people who are wanted were detained for the organization of illegal migration.

In addition, during the operation “illegal” more than 144 thousand criminal cases on other corpus delicti, including for illegal circulation of drugs and weapons, illegal crossing of the state border, he noted.

“Starting since 2018, financial intelligence units are taking an active part in the operation, which identified 7.5 thousand dubious financial transactions totaling $ 100 million,” said Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO.

According to him, the analysis of the results of the operation “illegal” and other events carried out at the national level indicates that the main traffic of migrants proceeds from the countries of Southeast Asia, the Asia-Pacific region, the near and Middle East. Their paths pass mainly through the states of Central Asia to Russia and Belarus for subsequent transit to the countries of the European Union.
