No applications for the withdrawal of Armenia from the organization of the Collective Security Treaty (CSTO) were received. This was stated at a briefing by the chief of the joint staff of the CSTO, Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov.
“I think that the difficulties that the Republic of Armenia is experiencing, the wise chapters of our states will find ways to solve them. There are no official statements from the leadership of Armenia to the organization, no statements that Armenia is leaving the organization on collective security, there were no ways And there were no documents on this subject. I personally did not see, ”said Sidorov, whose words are given by Russian media.
According to him, the CSTO did not lose interest in the Caucasian region.
“In the organization of the conversation that the CSTO has lost interest in the Caucasian region or they were going to” leave Armenia ” – even no one has such a close in thoughts,” he said.
“The fact that somewhat limited participation in joint events held in 2023 was from Armenia – but everyone can take shape in the state, and here we are not discussing decisions. At the same time, they participate in lawmaking and legislative activities and in the consideration of the organization’s documents, and in financing the activities of permanent authorized bodies. Therefore, the process is ongoing, ”added the chief of the United Staff.
According to Sidorov, in terms of exercises for 2024, the emphasis was placed in the Central Asian region. “In particular, in Kyrgyzstan we have planned exercises with the collective forces of the CSTO operational response, in Kazakhstan – with peacekeeping forces, and with the collective forces of the rapid deployment of the Central Asian region in Tajikistan,” he said.
Sidorov also noted that the CSTO takes measures to stop the terrorist threat from the territory of Afghanistan.
“Today, such a splashing out problem of military security or military danger, which would come from the territory of Afghanistan, no. But at the same time we understand that today’s leadership of Afghanistan does not fully owns or controls the situation in the territory of the state, Including in the northern regions that borders on the CSTO members.
