Damascus International Airport resumed flights on December 18. The airline Syrian Airlines flew out of the capital of Syria to the city of Aleppo. This was the first civil flight from the air harbor from December 8, when the Bashar Assad regime was overthrown.
According to the director of Damascus Airport Enis Fallukh, today the Katar Airways airline flight will also be completed. “We hope to increase the number of flights. We have completed the preparations within the framework of our capabilities for the safe organization of flights. We are ready to meet planes,” he said
He noted that at present there are 140 – 150 passengers at the airport. Fallukh added that many companies have expressed a desire to conclude new agreements to use Damascus Airport.
Anadolu agency talked with Bilal Shani, a passenger of the first international flight. The interlocutor of the agency said that he flew to the capital from Hama for further transplanting on a flight to Sharju.
He said that in the near future, the organization of flights from Damascus to European countries is expected in the near future. “I hope that the planes of all airlines will fly to this airport. We have been experiencing such happiness and feelings that we have not known for 14 years,” he said.
Earlier, the head of the Syrian Civil Aviation and Air Transport, Eshkhad Salibi said that the airports of Damascus and Aleppo will serve flights from around the world.
