Damascus Called To Cancel Sanctions Against Syria On An Ongoing Basis

temporary cancellation or suspension of sanctions in relation to Syria will not be enough, they should be canceled on an ongoing basis. This was stated by the Minister of Finance of the New Syrian administration, Mohammed Abazid at a meeting with the delegation of the European Union (EU) in Damascus.

During the meeting with representatives of the EU delegation, issues such as lifting sanctions and restoration of the country were addressed.

Following the meeting, Abazid said that the temporary cancellation or suspension of sanctions in relation to Syria will not be enough.

“It is especially important to remove restrictions on the import of oil equipment and the insurance sector,” he said.

According to the minister, the Syrian authorities also demanded the removal of restrictions on state liquidity frozen in Western banks.

“These steps must be taken to ensure the stability of the Syrian people, the development and creation of a strong economic structure,” Abazid emphasized.
