Denmark Will Spend About $ 2 Billion On Security In Arctic

Denmark will spend about $ 2 billion on strengthening its military presence in the Arctic region. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Defense of Denmark.

It is noted that Copenhagen took such a step against the backdrop of statements by US President Donald Trump about the “purchase of Greenland”.

This initiative was achieved following the results of cooperation with the authorities of the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The warfold who expressed support for the agreement tend to protect the sovereignty of the region and improve their monitoring capabilities. As part of these initiatives in the Greenland region, it is planned to use 3 new ships of the Arctic naval forces, as well as 2 unmanned aerial vehicles of a large radius of action, the report said.

The parties agreed that the second agreement on this issue should be reached in the first half of 2025.

“We must recognize the fact that we are faced with serious security and defense challenges in the Arctic and the North Atlantic. That’s why we must strengthen our presence in the region,” said Denmark Minister of Denmark Triels Lund Powlsen at a joint press conference with the chapter Greenland Foreign Ministry Vivian Motzfeldt.

In turn, MOCFELDT expressed satisfaction with a defense agreement aimed at improving Greenland’s security and regions adjacent to it.

Trump’s statements in Greenland

In his message published on the Truth Social social network on December 23, 2024, Trump again said that Greenland should be under the control of the United States.

Trump’s statements caused indignation by representatives of different communities, in particular Greenland officials.

“Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders. We are not sold and we will not be sold. We should not lose our long struggle for freedom,” said Greenland Prime Minister Muta Borup Egeda.
