On Thursday (9 September 2021), NATO’s Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană met Vice President and Foreign Minister of Colombia Marta Lucía Ramírez de Rincón, and discussed the deepening of bilateral cooperation between Colombia and NATO.
Colombia and NATO will agree a new partnership programme in the autumn of 2021. Potential areas of interest for enhanced cooperation include interoperability, building integrity, training and education, as well as climate change and security. During their meeting, Mr. Geoană and Mrs. Ramírez de Rincón also exchanged views on security issues of shared interest.
Colombia has been a partner to NATO since 2017 and is NATO’s only partner in Latin America.
Enhancing relations with like-minded partners across the world, such as Colombia, is an essential part of NATO’s 2030 agenda and is instrumental to addressing today’s global security challenges.
