Prince Nadir Zahir, the third son of the former king Afghanistan Zahir-Shaha, died on Monday in Rome, where he lived in emigration since 1973 together with the rest of the family of the family. This was announced by the Afghan News news portal with reference to his son Prince Mustafa, who said that his father would be buried in Rome.
According to the portal, the former king of Afghanistan Mohammad Zahir-Shaha had a total of eight children, six sons and two daughters. The title of the head of the royal house was carried by Prince Ahmad Shah (born in 1934), the second son of the monarch. The dead prince was born in 1941 and could become the heir to the throne.
The 40-year-old Board of Zahir Shaha was the longest period of the world and the relative prosperity of Afghanistan in the 20th century: the country moved along the path of reform and economic development, supporting friendly relations with neighbors, including from the USSR.
In the king in 1964, a constitution was adopted, where the right to create public organizations and political parties was declared, and the role of the clergy in the field of education and proceedings was significantly limited. In 1965, a new election law was developed, for the first time by the voting rights to women.
Antimonarchic coup in 1973 occurred at the time when the king was on vacation in Italy. Zahir Shah was able to return to his homeland only in 2002 after removing the Taliban from the authority as a result of the operation of multinational forces. According to the Constitution, adopted in 2004, Zahir Shah was declared the “father of the nation”, but did not receive any real power or posts. Before his death in 2007, he lived in the Kabul Palace of Aramsara, where he periodically met with the leaders of the Afghan tribes.
