Turkish representatives plan on Friday to negotiate with the Russian delegation in Ankara in an effort to achieve more than a 25 percent discount on gas imported from Russia, Bloomberg reports with reference to high-ranking Turkish officials.
According to the agency, Ankara expects that the discount will be applied both to payments for 2023 and made in 2022. If Turkey cannot achieve the desired discount, then he will try to get a deferred on payments until 2024.
Bloomberg writes that the agreement can weaken pressure on the Turkish lyre and help to avoid rising energy prices on the eve of the presidential election in 2023.
