Dozens of Iranian demonstrators are facing death penalty

at least 24 demonstrators in Iran are threatened by the death penalty due to participation in anti-government protests. The Iranian daily newspaper Eternad on Saturday, December 10, published a list of names of 25 demonstrators, which was charged with the “war against God” compiled by the justice bodies. According to Islamic legal norms, such an accusation entails the death penalty.

The rapper Mohsen Shekari on the list was executed on December 8th. He was accused of attacked a fighter of the militarized formation of Basiji, intimidated people and blocked one of the roads. The justice of Iran reported the upcoming new executions. The Eternad newspaper urged Iranian justice bodies to cancel the death sentences and prevent further executions.

The world community sharply condemned the execution of Mohsen Scheceri. At the same time, the political leadership of Iran, including President Ebrahim Raisi, called the execution of the rapper a legitimate response to the riots in the country. Protest participants threatened the authorities with acts of retaliation. In social networks, the warning “Wait for our revenge.” At the end of the current week, Iranians living abroad planned a number of protests.
