A conference held in Dublin under the auspices of the Irish Presidency of the Committee of Ministers has discussed “Human Rights in a Time of Change: Perspeectives from Ireland and from Strasbourg”. Speakers included the Chief Justice of Ireland, Donal O’Donnell, the Irish Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman, the current President of the European Court of Human Rights, Roberto Spano and the incoming President of the ECHR, the current Vice-President and Irish judge Siofra O’Leary, who will become the first-ever female President of the Strasbourg Court when she takes up her office on November 1st. Other speakers included Justice Iseult O’Malley, judge of the Supreme Court; and Colm O’Cinneide, leading Professor of Constitutional and Human Rights Law at University College London. The event took place at Dublin City University on Friday 21 October.
