Duma leadership is collected for an emergency meeting

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin calls the heads of the Duma factions from vacations to discuss an extraordinary meeting of deputies because of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, Russian media reports.

The reason for the meeting was the statement of the leader of the Communist Party of the Communist Party of Gennady Zyuganov, which was sent to reporters last Thursday. Zyuganov proposed to discuss in parliament “The current situation and develop additional measures to successfully complete the military-political operation.”

The next day, the Duma press service announced the upcoming meeting of the chairman and leaders of the factions on Monday, August 22, during which a decision will be made on the date of the meeting of the Council of State Duma leaders. Presumably, it will pass this week. The main topics will be a statement about the events at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the bills introduced in July-August, which must be sent to the newsletter. It is not planned to hold a plenary meeting yet.

Russian political scientist Mikhail Vinogradov suggested that the Duma is trying to emphasize his role in the events in Ukraine and compensate for the “somewhat humiliating” emergency meeting in July, which did not happen critically. Also, before the September elections, parties need to indicate their positions.

The Russian authorities are also beneficial for the accusations against the USA and Ukraine to worsen the situation on the ZASS sound from the filing of the parliamentary “opposition”, Russian political scientist Konstantin Kalachev added.
