Germany and France play the role of moderators and observers in Norman format, and Russia is one of the parties to the conflict. This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Lyien at a press conference in Brussels, following the results of the Summit of the Eastern Partnership, responding to the question of journalists, what format of negotiations with Russia will choose in the event of a response to new aggression against Ukraine, reports Ukrinform.
According to her, the negotiation format is very clear. After annexation of Crimea, the Norman format was created by Russia, where Germany and France are moderators and observers, and the parties to the conflict are Ukraine and Russia.
“We work in this format. I think this is the necessary format for this conflict,” said the background der Lyien.
The president of the EC confirmed that in the summer of the current year, the European Commission received the task from the European Council to develop different options for action in the event of further aggression of Russia against Ukraine and fulfilled the “homework”. So the European Union is ready to respond to the aggressive actions of Russia, although it hopes that this will not happen.
“We call on Russia to hold de essay and refrain from any aggressive action. We have demonstrated Ukraine to our tough support for its sovereignty and territorial integrity. There should be no doubt – the European Union will answer firmly on any further aggression against Ukraine,” Ursula Straighfied Lyien.
On the eve of Brussels, the sixth Summit of the Eastern Partnership was held.
