According to the results of the first quarter of 2023, the growth of GDP of Uzbekistan was 5.5 percent. As the Gazeta. Uz reports, this follows the report of the Agency for Statistics under the President.
This is much higher than the forecast, which was voiced at a meeting with the president at the end of January. Then it was noted that against the background of interruptions in the supply of electricity and gas due to January frosts, 3,000 industrial enterprises did not produce products for 7 trillion soums. It was reported that if the necessary measures are not taken, the growth of gross domestic product in the first quarter may decrease to 1.5 percent (from 5 percent to 3.5 percent).
The slowdown of GDP growth also signaled the data on industrial production. In January -February, this indicator decreased by 3.9 percent, but according to the results of March, the statistics agency reported a sharp increase in industrial production by 4.1 percent.
Foreign trade turnover in the first three months increased by 11.9 percent, imports – by 23.4 percent, but exports fell by 2.6 percent.
The Central Bank of Uzbekistan predicted the growth of the country’s economy for 2023 at 4.5-5 percent.
