Ecuador’s security forces liquidated 21.5 tons of drugs

Ecuador’s security forces destroyed the largest batch of drugs in the history of the country- 21.5 tons.

According to Ecuador’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, narcotic substances were seized from criminals last week in rural areas.

The cost of an intercepted batch of drugs in international markets is about $ 1 billion, the department noted.

In total, the elimination of the drugs of security forces spent 11 hours.

During operations against criminal organizations, 17 units of long -barrel weapons and 5400 rounds were seized.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ecuador emphasized the determination to continue the further struggle with criminal organizations.

Director of the National Drug Control Department, William Willions, said that the seized drugs may belong to more than one criminal organization, and for this reason, a “big blow” was inflicted.

President of Ecuador Daniel Noboa, on January 9, announced the introduction of a state of emergency in the country to establish order in prisons after the alleged escape of the leader of the drug cartel Adolfo Masias, nicknamed Fito.

The Decree signed by the President involves the introduction of a commandant in a country from 23:00 to 05:00 for a period of 60 days.

After the introduction of a state of emergency, criminal organizations stole many police officers and set fire to their cars.

The Ecuador, bordering the pen and Colombia, is often used for transit of narcotic substances. The country is actively operating gangs of drug dealers.

In recent years, Ecuador has experienced a sharp increase in crime. In July last year, the authorities introduced a state of emergency in all prisons of the country for 60 days because of several riots that broke out on the same day.
