The administration of the Suez Canal announced on Saturday, May 15, on the start of work on the expansion and deepening of the transport artery channel connecting the Mediterranean and Red Sea, reports TASS with reference to the head of the administration of Usama Rabiia.
According to him, the expansion and deepening of the Suez Channel will allow it to be completely bilateral, which will increase the bandwidth. Main works are underway to the south of the big and small salted lakes, in the area of the southern entrance to the Navigation Course Channel. It was in this section of the channel on March 23, the Ever Given tanker, who blocked the Suez canal for six days.
“Development project will be implemented in several stages. The first phase includes the implementation of the project to duplicate a channel with small bitter lakes,” Raby said.
