Ekovas: Africa Annually Loses About $ 88.6 Billion Due To Illegal Financial Flows

The Economic Community of the West African states (Ekovas) reported that the African continent annually loses about $ 88.6 billion due to illegal financial flows and corruption.

At the opening of the training “Certificate on Financial Investigations for Anti-Corruption Institutes of Western Africa” ​​in Sauda (Niger, Nigeria), the message of Commissioner Ekovas on political issues, peace and security of Abdel-Fatau Musakh was read out.

In his message, Musa noted that the fight against corruption on the African continent should be strengthened by regional cooperation.

Having stated that the African continent annually loses about $ 88.6 billion due to illegal financial flows and corruption, Musa noted that these losses correspond to approximately 3.7 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the continent.

He noted that losses due to corruption on the continent are seriously threatened with development goals.

Abdel-Fatau Musa said that the Ekovas commission, led by President Nigeria and the current chairman of Ekovas, Ahmed Tinube, continues to work in order to strengthen regional integration and transformation of Western Africa into exemplary and economic development.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Commission on Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) and the National Network of Anti -Corruption Agencies of West Africa (NACIWA) Ola Olukaede noted that international cooperation is inevitable for deepening the fight against corruption in the region.
