Ekovas rejected three -year transitional plan in Niger

The Economic Community of the West African states (Ekovas) rejected the three -year transitional plan proposed by the military administration. The corresponding statement in an interview with BBC was made by the Commissioner Ekovas for political affairs, peace and security Abdel Fatau Musakh.

According to him, the three -year transitional plan proposed by the leader of the National Council for the Salvation of the Homeland (CSP) Abdurahman Tchiana is unacceptable.

“Tecani’s proposal is only a” smoke curtain “for dialogue and diplomacy. Ekovas does not accept the next long transitional period in the region. They must simply be ready to convey (power) as soon as possible,” said Musakh.

He called on the military leadership as soon as possible to return the power of the civil administration.

Earlier, on August 19, Tchiana in his appeal to the nation stated that the transition to a civilian form of government would be completed in a maximum of 3 years.

President Niger Mohammed Bazum was detained by the units of the presidential guard on July 26.

On July 28, General Abdurakhman Tchiani spoke on behalf of the military and declared himself the chairman of the National Council of Salvation Niger.
