“Seismic activity is due to the strong earthquake that occurred on the border of China and Kyrgyzstan, the seismic waves of which spread to the territory of nearby countries, including Kazakhstan. Supporting a large number of apotershoks, which is still observed after earthquakes of such intensity. This process will take place – depends on many factors, including the seismicity of the region where the epicenter of the earthquake is located, and on ground conditions. The process of intensification of seismicity will gradually be faded and it will return to the usual regime, ”the department said.
The Ministry of Emergencies noted that the work of the Republican Operational Staff continues on the basis of the Department of Management in Crisis Situations of the Ministry of Emergencies, transport and production facilities work as usual and the situation is stable.
The Ministry of Emergencies recommended citizens to remain calm and not to panic, as well as prepare a “alarming suitcase” in advance, which includes medicines, essential items, products, documents, a flashlight and warm things.
Earlier, the President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev instructed to revise the approaches to ensuring seismic security in the country.
In particular, Tokaev criticized the equipment of the warning and elimination system of emergencies.
“During the earthquake, those who distributed misinformation appeared. It is necessary to hold accountable in accordance with the law of persons who sowed panic among people,” the president said.
The Kazakh leader noted that it is necessary to increase the readiness of the population for emergency situations not on paper, but in practice.
On the night of January 23, an earthquake was recorded with an epicenter of 264 km southeast of the city of Almaty on the border of Kyrgyzstan and China.
