President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon proposed intensifying the participation of the European Union (EU) in the development of “green” energy and expand investment cooperation.
with such an appeal, the Tajik leader made on Friday, April 4, at the first summit “Central Asia – European Union”, which takes place in Samarkand.
According to the presidential press service, Rakhmon called the development of partnership with the EU at a bilateral level one of the priorities of Tajikistan’s foreign policy.
EU is a key partner in the development of energy
Speaking to the leaders of the countries of Central Asia and the EU leadership, the Tajik leader emphasized the significance of the “Road Map to deepen relations between Central Asia and the EU”, noting that the document became the basis for expanding interregional cooperation.
“For Tajikistan, the energy sector, especially renewable sources, including hydropower, is of strategic importance for both internal development and to strengthen regional cooperation,” said Rahmon.
The President recalled that the EU is already taking part in the implementation of a number of key energy projects in the republic, including the modernization of the Nurek, Sebiz and Kayrakkum hydroelectric power station.
According to the president, Dushanbe counts on the participation of the European Union, both directly and within the framework of the Global Gate initiative, in the construction and update of energy facilities.
The President of Tajikistan announced his intention to increase the share of solar and wind energy in the total production volume of up to 10 percent by 2030.
“We intend to fully ensure the production of electricity from renewable sources on the basis of the development strategy of the” green “economy by 2032, and by 2037 to turn Tajikistan into a Green Country, he emphasized.
Dushanbe is waiting for partners to the conference on the protection of glaciers
The Head of State reminded of the global initiatives of Tajikistan, in particular, the upcoming international conference of a high level on the preservation of glaciers, which will be held in Dushanbe at the end of May.
“We are counting on the active participation of European and regional partners in this important initiative,” he said
In addition, the president expressed interest in opening branches of European universities in Tajikistan, expanding educational quotas and the development of cultural exchanges.
