Erdogan and Stoltenberg discussed events in Russia

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. This was reported by the Office for the Relations of the Administration of the President of Turkey.

According to the statement, the parties discussed the latest events in Russia.

It is noted that the de -escalation of the situation in Russia prevented the irreversible humanitarian disasters on the Ukrainian field.

President Erdogan expressed the hope that recent events in Russia will become a new milestone on the way to the fair world in Ukraine.

During negotiations, the theme of Sweden membership in NATO is also affected.

The Turkish leader noted that Ankara retains a constructive attitude to the issue of Stockholm accessing to the block. However, he indicated that while supporters of the PKK/PYD/YPG terrorist organization are freely acting in this country, amendments to the [anti -terrorist] legislation of Sweden are devoid of meaning.

In addition, it was emphasized from the Turkish side that the injustice that Ankara faced in the context of delivering F-35 fighters, as well as attempts to connect Turkey’s requests relative to F-16 fighters with NATO membership, will primarily damage the alliance itself and its security, and not Turkey.
