Erdogan: Ankara Is Ready To Contribute To UN Strengthening

Türkiye is ready to support efforts aimed at the effective reform of the UN. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in circulation on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the UN foundation.

“Turkey is ready to support all efforts aimed at ensuring that the UN, which it considers the cornerstone of multilaterality, again becomes a beacon of hope for humanity and that the international system is effectively structured on the basis of the principles of justice, equality and solidarity, free from double standards “,” said Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his festive message.

The head of state expressed the determination of Ankara to continue to make a concrete to the activities within the UN, aimed at mediation, preventing conflicts, maintaining peace, fighting terrorism, migration management, sustainable development, environmental protection and assistance to such initiatives as an alliance of civilizations.

According to him, the growing presence of UN structures in Turkey, especially in Istanbul, is a “specific manifestation” of the strengthening of Ankara cooperation with the UN.

The Turkish leader regretfully stated that the UN Security Council did not fulfill its duties to prevent genocide in the gas sector. President Erdogan said that the Security Council “with his position encourages criminals and undermines the faith in the international system based on the rules.”

“Unfortunately, the Security Council endowed with the broadest powers for this purpose in the present demonstrates helplessness in the face of events that protrude both international law and human dignity,” he added.

He warned that the Security Council is vital to accept and implement the measures required by international law before the current situation in the Middle East will develop into an even more destructive and large -scale crisis.
