Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the strict observance of his country of the Montreo Convention, which regulates the shipping in the Black Sea zone, made it possible to prevent tension in the Black Sea basin with the outbreak of war in Ukraine. The video message of the Turkish leader broadcast the TRT channel.
“Turkey strictly follows the Montreo Convention. Thereby we prevented tension in the Black Sea basin,” Erdogan said in an appeal to the nation after the government meeting. The video message of the Turkish leader broadcast the TRT channel.
Turkish authorities have previously repeatedly stated that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, not a single warship had been missed into the Black Sea, citing the right granted to it within the framework of the Montreo Convention. In March last year, Turkey officially informed Russia and Ukraine, which will apply article 19 of the Convention on the ban on the passage of warships through Dardanella and Bosphorus.
