Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan stated on Thursday about intentions to continue contacts with Russian and Ukraine’s presidents Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky after the past NATO summit. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
“We told our allies on NATO to our active and principled policies and diplomatic efforts. We believe that NATO should act realistically and strategically. We support negotiations between Russia and Ukraine and welcome the progress in them with careful optimism. I’m going to continue contact with Putin and Zelensky after today’s summit, “noted the Turkish president at a press conference in Brussels following the NATO summit.
Turkish President also said that he drew the attention of NATO partners on the principle of indivisibility of security. “We stressed that the Alliance is not a structure that will be a threat to Russia or any other country. I drew attention to the principle of security,” the Turkish president stressed.
Also, Turkey calls on NATO allies to cancel the sanctions introduced against the defense industry of the republic. “While the success of the Turkish defense industry is obvious, it is impossible to find a reasonable excuse for the restrictions with which we are faced in this area. The abolition of restrictions imposed by some of our allies is our common interests,” said the President of the Republic.
Erdogan added that Turkey intently monitors the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine and supports them. In addition, Turkey will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
