Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made an appeal on the occasion of the 571st anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul by the Ottoman state.
The head of state called this event of one of the brilliant victories in both Turkish and world history.
“I celebrate the 571st anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul, one of the greatest victories in the world and our history,” said the Turkish leader.
The Turkish President emphasized the “enduring significance of this historical triumph.”
Erdogan also emphasized the “military genius, determination and perseverance” characteristic of the Ottoman troops led by Fatich Sultan Mehmet.
According to him, this victory not only contributed to the expansion of the Ottoman Empire, but also turned Istanbul into a place of intersection of various cultures and beliefs. He noted that this was largely facilitated by the vision of the Sultan Mehmet, focused on “tolerance and fair rule”.
The politician also noted the role of Istanbul in the modern world. “Istanbul, who has reported traces of his history to the present day and serves as a source of inspiration for artists, is today among the leading cities of the world as a business, financial, cultural and religious center,” he said.
The president spent parallels between the era of the Sultan Mehmet and the modern aspirations of Turkey, noting that the same spirit of “perseverance and faith” leads the country to achieve the intended goals, including within the concept of “Century of Turkey”.
“On the occasion of the 571st anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul, I respect the memory of Fatikh Sultan Mehmet and our martyrs, who left us this city of a global and incomparable beauty,” the head of state, the inheritance of the head of state.
