A grain agreement planned for May 5 is important. This was stated by the press secretary of the Turkish President Ibrahim Kalyn at one of the events in the presidential complex in Ankara.
Kalyn recalled that the next term for extending the grain agreement is soon expired. “If a positive contribution is not made, the shipping of grain may stop on May 18. Russians can suspend this unilaterally, announcing that their expectations are not justified in this direction. All this will provoke a very serious problem with food supply,” he said.
The press secretary of the Turkish leader noted that Russia has a number of requirements regarding logistics, insurance and port services within the framework of the issue under consideration. In particular, the issue of transporting Russian ammonia through Ukrainian ports is discussed, and Turkey makes every effort to solve this issue.
According to him, if it is possible to resolve questions on the exchange of prisoners of war, the supply of ammonia and fertilizers, then this will become part of the implementation of the grain agreement. “This is very important, especially during this period, when we are approaching the summer months. Today, within the framework of the grain agreement, about 20 million tons of grain have been delivered to the global markets. Imagine that this did not happen, imagine that this grain did not go to the market during the year. This corresponds to 10-15 percent of world markets. This would lead to an increase in prices by 40-50-60 percent, and maybe 100 percent. We prevented this thanks to diplomatic efforts, ”Kalyn noted.
Touching the topic of the meeting planned on May 5 with the participation of Turkey, Ukraine, Russia and the United Nations (UN), Kalyn said that the parties are trying to develop a formula that will help solve problems with logistics, as well as ammonia, fertilizers and prisoners of war Until May 18,
