Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made an appeal on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the deportation of Turks Akhysk from historical lands in modern Georgia.
The head of the Turkish state shared the corresponding publication on the social network x.
“I note with sadness the 79th anniversary of the exile of the Turks Ahhysk from their lands and wish the mercy of the Almighty almost 20 thousand of our brothers and sisters who died during this great oppression,” the Turkish leader wrote.
The President assured that Turkey will continue to protect the rights of Turks Akhysk on all international platforms.
The deportation of the Turks Akhysk to Central Asia was carried out by order of Joseph Stalin of November 14, 1944.
Most of the 90-117 thousand Turks Ahysk, sent to the internal regions of the Soviet Union, died on the way from hunger and disease.
