Error of Azerbaijani clinic has become a headache for zoo defenders around world

The wife of the American diplomat in Kenya Casey Bollrud organized a campaign in order to cancel the ban on the US Department of Health for the import of dogs into the country, writes the publication Ctinsider.

The couple Bollrud lived in Kenya for a long time, but a few months ago the head of the family was called to Washington, where he should take a new position. The family prepared for the move, but it turned out that they could not take their pets into the states.

The reason is the strict prohibition introduced by the Health Department after the case with a dog imported from Azerbaijan. As Haqqin.az previously reported, brought in 2021 from Azerbaijan to Pennsylvania, a rescue dog gave a positive result for a strain of rabies.

The Pennsylvania Health Department examined the animal, confirming that it has a rabies virus supported by dogs (DMRVV). This strain of rabies was eradicated in the United States back in 2007. Subsequent tests showed that the dog was not vaccinated against rabies.

Representatives of the US Department made contact with the clinic in Azerbaijan. It turned out that a young employee was responsible for the vaccination of animals. When examining the workplace, used bottles with rabies vaccine were found, in which 25-33% of the drug remained. American experts concluded that the infection arose as a result of insufficient animal vaccination.

After this US incident, the rules of importing dogs from almost 113 countries tightened the rules for the import of dogs. Casey Bollrud notes that theoretically you can import a dog in the United States. To do this, you need to take tests in the clinic, the results of which are recognized in the USA. However, the problem is that outside the United States there are only a few such clinics.

Bollrud sent images of dogs of dogs to two laboratories located in Belgium and South Africa. As a result, the procedure that had previously cost $ 500 cost her 15 thousand dollars. And after that, the answer will have to wait a few months.

The wife of the American diplomat believes that the new ban on the Department of Health is too strict and actually makes it impossible to transport home dogs to the States. She, together with other zoo defenders, intends to seek the abolition or mitigation of this prohibition.
