The eruption of one of the most active volcanoes of Africa – Nyraonggo, located in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has happened on Saturday. This was reported by the Reuters agency with reference to the Volkanologist Dario Tedesko.
“I see the high fountains of the lava,” the agency leads his words. Tedesko suggested that the city of Goma with a population of 1.5 million people can suffer from eruption. “At the moment, the evacuation of people from the areas closest to the volcano is not announced,” he noted.
The height of the Nyragongo volcano, which is part of the albertin rift, is 3,470 m. It is known for its superfluid due to the special chemical composition of Loo. The speed of movement of the lava from the slopes of the volcano reaches 96 km per hour. One of the most significant eruptions of Niiragongo occurred in 1977 – then more than 600 people were killed.
