Estonian Minister of Defense Hanno Peviquur, approved the development plan for the Armed Forces for 2024-2027, according to which it is planned to purchase Himars launch rocket systems, a medium-range missile system, as well as ammunition for a record amount of 1.2 billion euros.
This was reported on Sunday by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Estonia.
Development plans are also provided for reconstruction of the runway at the Emari airbase, the construction of new barracks, ammunition depots, as well as mobilization military warehouses, will be replaced by the Pikker patrol ship, and an increase in the co-financing of projects in the defense industry.
“Estonia investments in defense sharply grew up in the light of war in Ukraine, we acquire significantly more weapons, ammunition and equipment, but it is also important that we invest in people and infrastructure,” said Pevour.
Pevour said that the events in Ukraine clearly show what capabilities of Estonia needs to be invested. “This allows you to increase the costs of state defense to 3 percent of GDP,” he said.
