The representative office of the European Union in Georgia together with the heads of the EU missions accredited in the country published the first report on the results of the second round of elections to local authorities, the Satellite of Georgia reports.
European diplomats called on all parties to continue their participation in the electoral process for a reliable and transparent process of recalculating the results of voting, as well as impartial consideration of complaints and appeals.
“Company’s trust in relation to the equity of elections requires an inclusive, reliable and transparent process of recalculating and fair consideration of complaints and appeals. In this respect, the main responsibility in the coming days falls on the CEC and Courts,” the statement says.
European diplomats agreed with the assessment of international observers that the elections are generally organized well organized, and the election campaign was competitive, although there were escalation of negative rhetoric, constant accusations for intimidation and pressure of voters and a sharp imbalance of administrative resources, which gave the advantage of the ruling party Before the government.
“Despite the clear estimates of international observers, after the first round of elections, there were no significant steps to eliminate the main disadvantages. On the contrary, there were new gaps, especially in the abuse of an administrative resource and aggressive rhetoric on the part of Georgian political leaders, which aggravated and without Togo deep political polarization, “- noted in the statement.
Evaluating the second round of elections, European diplomats called it “missed opportunity.” The EU also negatively responded to the possible refusal of the central government to cooperate with local authorities, where the majority represents the opposition.
Note that Last Saturday in Georgia, 20 cities and municipalities were chosen, including in the capital and four major cities. In addition, 42 majoritarian deputies of local meetings were elected in 24 districts – Sacrebulo.
