The European Union expects the participation of “without assumption” leaders of Kosovo and Serbia in negotiations in Brussels, organized in order to reduce tension in the region. This was stated by the press secretary of the European Commission Peter Stano at a daily briefing in Brussels.
Stano recalled that the head of the EU diplomacy, Josep Borrel, invited President Serbia Alexander Vuchic and Prime Minister Kosovo Albina Kurti to negotiate in order to resume a dialogue between Belgrade and Prisnatina.
According to him, although the parties have not yet commented on the invitation, in the European Union it expects a positive reaction. “The EU expects a reasonable position from countries who want to join the Union. We invited both sides, and expect participation from them without preliminary conditions,” Stano said.
The spokesman stated that the issue is on the agenda of the meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers, which will be held on June 26, and the EU leaders summit, planned on June 29-30. This indicates the significance of the European Union of normalizing the situation in the region, he said.
According to Stano, Belgrade and Primetin should consider the proposal of the bean as the possibility of resolving tension. “Otherwise, this will entail negative consequences for the inhabitants of Serbia and Kosovo. The responsibility for this will only be on the leaders,” he warned.
President of Serbia Alexander Vuchich previously called the “meaningless” dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina “in the current situation.”
