The European Union extended for the year of sanctions against the regime of Bashar al -Assad in Syria.
According to the EU Council, the restrictive measures introduced due to pressure on the civilian population of Syria will continue to operate until June 1, 2025.
Measures concern 316 individuals and 86 companies: Five dead people and “another person” were excluded from the list.
EU sanctions against Syria entered into force in 2011 due to cruel oppression of the Assad of the Syrian people. The EU also imposed sanctions against businessmen and companies close to Assad.
In addition, measures include restrictions on oil, a number of investments, freezing of the assets of the Syrian Central Bank in the EU, the export of equipment and technologies that will be used to pressure and monitor communications within the country. Sanctions do not interfere with the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
