The critical infrastructure of the European Union is vulnerable and needs better protection against dangers from the inside and from the outside, ”said the European Commissioner for EU internal affairs Ilva Johansson, which is quoted by Euronews.
Commenting on the incident on the North Stream gas pipelines, of which Russia is suspected of involvement, Johansson said that the war in Ukraine is a threat to the EU.
It is noted that the EU countries have agreed to expand and deepen the directives of critical infrastructure adopted in 2008. An expanded directive will cover 11 categories of events fraught with the death of people and the destruction of property necessary for the normal functioning of the state. The new rules will enter into force in 2024, but Johansson calls on the member countries to use them even earlier.
