The Chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen commented on the US decision to introduce a 25 percent duty on the import of cars from the EU.
“I am deeply regretting the US decision to introduce duties on the export of European cars,” the chairman emphasized.
According to von der Lyain, the automotive industry is the driving force of innovation, competitiveness and high -quality employment on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to closely integrated supply chains.
In addition, she noted that the duties are actually taxes, and they will negatively affect both enterprises and consumers in the EU and the USA.
“Now we will consider this decision together with other measures that the United States plan in the coming days,” the head of the European Commission added.
von der Layen emphasized that the EU will continue to look for a decision through negotiations, simultaneously protecting its economic interests.
“As a strong association from 27 Sanizer countries, we will defend our workers, enterprises and consumers throughout Europe,” she said.
US President Donald Trump previously announced the introduction of a 25 percent duty on all cars that are not produced in the USA.
