The EU Foreign Minister’s Foreign Ministry approved the creation of a civil mission in Armenia to “promote settlement in the Caucasus,” the EU Council said in a statement of the EU.
“The EU Council has agreed today the creation of the EU civil mission in Armenia (EMU). Its task will be to increase trust in the border areas of Armenia and the creation of conditions that contribute to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the statement said.
The statement provides a quote from the head of the EU foreign policy service Josep Bo -Borrel that the creation of the EU mission “launches a new phase in the efforts of the European Union in the South Caucasus.”
The mission mandate provides for “constant patrolling and reports (Brussels) about the situation, which will increase the EU understanding of the situation“ on Earth ”. The mission will contribute to the intermediary efforts of the head of the European Council Charles Michel, the statement is noted.
