The European Union will increase the number of its civilian observation mission in Armenia from 138 to 209 people. This was reported by the Armenian news agency Armenpress with reference to the Supreme EU representative for foreign affairs and security policies Josep Bo -Borrel.
“As you know, we are now working on strengthening our relations with Armenia. Armenia would like to clearly see the benefits of expanding cooperation with the EU. We are ready to answer positively. As the first step of the expanded partnership today, the EU Council decided to strengthen our civilian mission In Armenia, increasing the presence in the field from 138 to 209 people. This is an important increase in the number of mission, and this is a way to increase the stability of the international border of Armenia with Azerbaijan, ”said Borel.
The heads of European diplomacy believes that there is a historical chance to achieve peace in the region.
EU is determined to continue to maintain these efforts, working both with Armenia and Azerbaijan, he noted.
Earlier, on December 27, 2022, Armenia sent a letter to Borrere, in which she proposed the EU to appoint a civil mission in her country. The EU Council decided to establish a civil mission on January 23, 2023. On February 20, the European Union announced the launch of a civil mission in Armenia for two years.
