The countries of the European Union, along with Turkey and Great Britain, since February 2022, that is, from the beginning of the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine, have increased their capacities for the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by 53.5 billion cubic meters. – up to 310.3 billion cubic meters. m.
As Anadolo reports with reference to the data of the Institute of Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) and GAS Infrastructure Europe (GIE), which is engaged in transportation, storage and regacification through LNG terminals, the level of loading 37 European LNG Terminal in 2022 amounted to 63 percent, while in 2023 this indicator decreased to 58.5 percent. A decrease in gas consumption occurred at the expense of steps taken in the field of energy efficiency, also an increase in investment in the sphere of renewable energy sources.
Four of eight LNG terminals with loading below 50 percent were in France, the rest in Italy, Greece, Finland and Germany.
According to IEEFA, the need for Europe in LNG by 2030 will be about 135 billion cubic meters. m., which means about 265-270 billion cubic meters. m. unused capacities.
Import of LNG European countries from the USA in 2023 amounted to 46 %, Qatar -12.1 %, Russia – 11.7 %, Algeria – 9.4 %, Nigeria – 5.6 %and other countries – the remaining volumes.
Last year, the most LNG was imported by France, Spain, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Italy and Turkey, respectively. At the same time, 70 percent of LNG in the global market is exported to long -term contracts, the remaining 30 percent is sold to the country with the highest rate on the spot market.
The countries of the European Union, along with Turkey and Great Britain, have increased their capacities in Import LNG by 53.5 billion cubic meters since February 2022. M.- up to 310.3 billion cubic meters. m. At the same time, before the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, this indicator amounted to 256.9 billion cubic meters. m.
At the same time, since February 2022, the throughput was increased at 4 terminals, and one of the unused terminals in Spain was again put into operation. In addition, 8 new terminals were built.
European LNG terminals
Spain is considered a country with the largest amount of LNG – terminals in Europe: 7 terminals with an annual power of 68.1 billion cubic meters.
Türkiye ranks second with a total capacity of more than 50 billion cubic meters. m. In the country there are five terminals: Ertugrul Gazi, Aliaga LNG, ETKI LNG, Marmara Ereglisi and Saros LNG.
The UK has 3 LNG Terminal with an annual capacity of 48.1 billion cubic meters. m, France – 4 terminals with a capacity of 39.5 billion cubic meters. m, the Netherlands – 2 terminals with a capacity of 24 billion cubic meters, Italy – 4 terminals with a capacity of 20.9 billion cubic meters and Germany – 3 terminals with a capacity of 16 billion cubic meters. m.
LNG terminals with lower capacities are in other European countries.
Europe since February 2022 increased the power of LNG by 53.5 billion cubic meters from the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
