In more than 20 countries of the European continent, abnormal heat is rampant, in seven of them a red level of anxiety is declared.
The representative of the World Meteorological Organization (VMO) Claire Nullis previously stated that on Monday a new record of the height of the freezing point was set: it reached 5298 meters. This is 115 meters above the previous record set on July 25, 2022. It is also the highest indicator from the beginning of measurements in 1954.
Nullis noted that meteorologists in France have declared a “yellow” level of anxiety for 49 departments and “red” anxiety – for four. VMO also warn that in some areas of Italy, Croatia and Portugal a “red” hazard level is announced.
She added that although the meteorological summer in the Northern Hemisphere is coming to an end, it is difficult to say with confidence that the periods of strong heat are over.
According to WMO, such abnormally high temperatures have a chance to become a new norm in conditions of global warming. According to WMO, in July the hottest week was recorded in Europe in the history of observations after the warmth of June in the history of observations.
