Ukraine cannot join NATO in conditions of hostilities on its territory. This was stated by the European Commissioner for the EU domestic market Thierry Breton on the air of the BFM television channel.
“Zelensky asked for the admission of Ukraine to NATO, but, as you know, the question of joining the Alliance cannot be posed during the period of hostilities in the country. And in Ukraine military operations are going on, and it is difficult to say when they end,” – quotes Breton Russian media.
September 30, after the annexation of Russia “LDNR”, the Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions of Ukraine, President Vladimir Zelensky said that Kyiv would submit an application for the entry into NATO in an accelerated manner. According to him, the Ukrainian authorities proved to the alliance that the country meets its standards. After that, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the procedure for the adoption of Ukraine is regulated by the Alliance, the decision should be made unanimously by all members of the alliance.
