The European Union needs to go into the military economy regime against the background of the ongoing conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. This was stated by the European Commissioner for Industry Thierry Breton, reports ERR.
“We must go into the regime of the military economy in order to ensure what Ukraine needs, as well as for our own security,” said the politician.
It is reported that on Tuesday, March 5, Breton will present proposals on how the EU can help strengthen its defense industry.
The proposals of the European Commissioner include the creation of the European version of the American scheme of foreign military sales, according to which the United States help governments of other countries buy weapons from American arms companies.
Another proposal will allow the EU to force European weapons companies to give priority to European orders during the crisis.
Breton’s proposals include 1.5 billion euros of defense investment until 2027. The European Commissioner also calls on the EU member states to agree on a joint loan of 100 billion euros.
