The Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Rashad Nabiev as part of a working visit to Brussels, took part in the “round table” on the topic of new views and opportunities for a sustainable transport message between Europe and Asia, “organized in the European Parliament.
The event was attended by the Secretary of the World Customs Organization Cunio Mikuri, members of the European Parliament, representatives of the European Commission, the European External Relations Service and Brain Centers.
Speaking at the “round table”, Rashad Nabiev informed the members of the European Parliament about projects implemented in the field of transport in Azerbaijan, and international transport corridors, the participant of which is our country.
It was noted that over the past two decades, Azerbaijan has invested billions of dollars in its transport infrastructure: “Azerbaijan built roads and railways, has surrendered new international airports, strengthened the civilian and air cargo fleet, and also built the Baku International Sea Port And he created the Alat free economic zone. These projects are superior to the internal needs of Azerbaijan and are designed to maintain wider regional cooperation. “
The existing geopolitical situation has further increased the strategic significance of our country in international transport. In a short period of time, there is a sharp increase in the volume of transit goods passing through the territory of our country.
During the performance, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan is actively supporting the “Medic forced corridor.” In October 2017, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line was commissioned, which is one of the main arteries of the Middle Corridor, connecting the Trans-European and Trans-Asian railway networks.
It was added that Azerbaijan, after restoring its territorial integrity, made the initiative of the opening of the Zangezur corridor. Due to its geographical advantages, this corridor can be the shortest and safe transit route between China and Central Asian countries to Europe.

The Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, Cunio Mikuri, made a speech in which he positively appreciated the efforts of Azerbaijan on the development of the “median corridor”. The Secretary General emphasized the need for digitalization and harmonization of border procedures along the “Middle Corridor”.
At the end, the participants of the “round table” exchanged views on the importance of the sustainable development of transport communication between Europe and Asia.
