European Parliament stripped Catalan separatists of parliamentary immunity

The European Parliament has deprived the ex-head of Catalonia Carles Puigdemont and two other Catalan politicians – Tony Comin and Clara Ponsati – of parliamentary immunity, which will allow the process of extradition to Spain to be resumed, where a prison awaits them. This is reported by TASS.

On Tuesday morning at the session of the European Parliament, the results of a remote secret ballot, which MPs held on Monday evening, were announced.

“The decisions to abolish the parliamentary immunity of Carles Puigdemont, Tony Comin, Clara Ponsati have been approved,” the European Parliament said in a statement.

Recall that in the fall of 2017, Puigdemont and his associates organized a referendum on its secession from Spain in the Spanish Autonomous Community of Catalonia, and then proclaimed the independence of the region. Both the referendum and the secession of part of the national territory are contrary to the Spanish Constitution.
